It has been a busy couple of weeks on the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC) LinkedIn Group.   Just 2 weeks left to enter the intranet design competition  I hear a lot of people complain about their intranets. Now is the time to "stop talking and start walking" and enter the competition to develop the most useful intranet home page. The competition is open to anyone and will reward the most useful intranet home page design. The close off date is 20th November so not long to go. There is a Kindle Fire on offer for the most useful intranet. But more importantly, there is the fame and recognition that will come with designing the winning entry.   Interesting discussions this week Some interesting discussions happening at the moment. The discussion started by Julian Thorn How 'branded' is your intranet has generated many comments. Is it worth the time and effort to brand your intranet? What are the benefits? To what extent should the intranet be branded? Read over 30 comments. Check out Low cost intranet tools/platforms - seeking recommendations if you are on the lookout for inexpensive intranet platforms.  Also an interesting discussion evolving around What is the best way to build a how to intranet. Is it better to ask a person how to do something or should there be some kind of intranet FAQ system to do this? Or perhaps a combination of the two? Free white paper Stephan Schillerwein has just published an interesting white paper - The Digital Workplace: Redefining Productivity in the Information Age. The paper contains some interesting research related to information management. For instance, did you know: Employees search for information for 0.5 to 2 hours per day – that’s up to about a ¼ of the full work time. This is nearly 3 months per year per employee. The U.S. economy loses $900b to $1.5t per year due to information overload and information related time waste Information isn‘t reaching decision makers on time, therefore 63% make business critical decisions five times or more a week without having the right information.
