For too long now many intranets have been regarded by executives and staff alike as a 'nice to have' - a simple online company newsletter or staff directory... a hobby for the communication, HR or IT teams more or less.
The challenge for people involved with intranets is to transform these intranets into tools that organisations can't live without - intranets that improve the way staff work and how they interact with colleagues.
Join other intranet professionals at the intranet networking event, Leading intranets: case studies from the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC), to hear about organisations that have delivered successful intranets.

How does the WIC help improve intranets?
Regular readers of this blog would know that one of the major benefits of the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC) is that it offers organisations the opportunity to obtain feedback from their intranet end users and then benchmark this feedback against other organisations.
The other benefit of the WIC is that it makes it possible to identify those intranets that rate well in each of the questions. The techniques, tips and ticks used by these organisations for these questions can then be shared with other organisations.
Discover tips and techniques from WIC intranets
The WIC is presenting a unique 2 hour gathering in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday 2nd August, Leading intranets: case studies from the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC).
Hear from two organisations who have participated in the WIC (from the 100+ organisations) and two special guests, who have kindly agreed to share their valuable insights about intranets. The presentations will be short, around 15 minutes each, sharp and interactive.
Drinks and finger food will also be included so it's a good opportunity to not only gain insights into leading intranets but to socialise and network with other professionals.
The event will cover the following topics:
What's wrong with our intranet and how we plan to fix it
Rebecca Jackson will provide a refreshingly candid overview of the Melbourne Water intranet. Using feedback from the WIC, Rebecca will talk about how the results support MWs Intranet Strategy and how they feed into their Intranet Redevelopment project.
Delivering an interactive intranet
nSynergy recently completed the WIC and ranked #1 or #2 (from 100 organisations) for many of the questions around intranet interactivity such as publishing content, discussing work topics, and collaborating online. Hear from Peter Nguyen-Brown, the nSynergy Practice Manager, who will not only talk about how they did it but will also give a live demonstration of some of the key functions.
Characteristics of successful web sites and similarities with intranets
The recent Weston Solutions WIC case study highlighted the importance of change management to intranet success. Simon Rawson from Microcoz Australia will talk about research that shows there are striking similarities between the characteristics of successful internet sites and intranets. Particularly the topics of change, content maintenance and planning.
The current state of social intranets
Canadian based intranet expert, CEO of Prescient Digital Media and prolific intranet author Toby Ward, will present, via Skype, the findings of a 2011 Social Intranet Study. This comprehensive study of more than 1400 organizations reveals how intranet 2.0 tools are being used in organizations, and how extensive and successful these tools have been to date. Prescient Digital Media is a provider of strategic Internet and intranet consulting, planning and communications services.
