Peter Lyons, MCEC's Internal Communications Coordinator, explains that some of the reasons for The Hive’s success include:
- The ability for staff to access from home,
- Free-standing computer terminals and electronic news screens in back-of-house areas,
- A weekly Chief Executive blog,
- Online feedback forms,
- Frequently updated and user-relevant content, and an
- Online employee rostering system.
Prior to launching in March 2012, employees were included in The Hive’s development through focus groups, face-to-face interviews and an intranet naming competition. Since then, The Hive has seen a 57 per cent increase in visitors, helping to communicate to over 500 employees with a majority being non-desk based.
Peter will be explaining in more detail the secrets of The Hive success at the event, Leading intranets: case studies from the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC) in Melbourne on 4 - 6pm, Tuesday 3rd December.
At this event, you will also hear from Jillian Hiscock from the Victorian Department of Transport, another organisation who has rated highly in the WIC. The DOT intranet ranked in the top 15% for the topics: overall value, completing common work tasks, policies & procedures and information for new starters (ranked #8).
For more information about the event, see Leading intranets: case studies from the Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC).
*The Worldwide Intranet Challenge (WIC) is a free online benchmark service that allows organisations to measure and compare the effectiveness of their intranets by collecting feedback from the actual intranet end users.
